This path page shows how you can organize (study-)items as a diagram showing their inter-dependencies. The path diagram embedded below shows some Khan Academy videos within boxes connected by lines/arrows.

The Path content type lets you first put the main body like other content types. Below the body, you'll see a large frame for creating path diagrams with any number of connected (or unconnected!) boxes of text/images/videos.

Path vs path diagram

Let us differentiate between Path and path diagram. Path is the content that has both body and an embedded path diagram, whereas a path diagram is only the diagram inside the drawing frame with connected/unconnected boxes containing HTML content within.

Saving Path and/or path diagram

The content of this box drawing area (namely, a path diagram) can be saved or loaded independently without saving the parent container Path. There are separate buttons - [Open a path diagram] or [Save this path diagram] below Body (just above the box drawing area), and a Save button for the Path at the bottom. Even if you only save the Path, it is saved with current path diagram. But if you only save the path diagram (not the Path), the path diagram is separtely saved in your workspace under folder "paths" [note tht folder "paths" do not have the Path content in it, it only has the code for path diagrams saved in files.

Box position and box content

The boxes in a path diagram are draggable (hold the left mouse button down on the title bar of the box and drag). Their content is editable (click the [Edit] link in the box title bar). Mathematical expressions are supported.

Adding a box

You can -

  • add new connected box (press left mouse button down on any of the 4 small yellow squares on the 4 sides of a box and drag to some location and then release the left button), or
  • add an isolated box (ctrl+left click anywhere on the empty space in path drawing frame).

Deleting a box or a box link

You can delete any box (click on the [X] button in the box title bar) or any link (click on any link), except the root box (which does not have [X] link in the title bar).

Directed/undirected box links

At anytime, you can convert all connecting lines (box links) simultaneously into directed links (arrows) (click the "All Links Directed/Undirected" checkbox). Or, you can selectively convert a particular box link into a directed link (Shift+left click the link).

You may choose to have all box links to be directed from some time onward (click in the "Directed From Now On" checkbox).
