Assistance for Classical Mechanics Tutorial-I

Step to write the Lagrangian for a system of point particles:

  • Choose a set of axis
  • Write expressions for kinetic and potential energies for the particles in terms of position vectors in Cartesian coordinates.
  • Check if there are constraints between components of positions. If yes choose generalized coordinates. Express the postion vectors in terms of generalized coordinates.
  • Express the kinetic and potential energies in terms of generalized coordinates
  • Write down the Lagrangian as \(L =T-V \).
